Öland is the second biggest Island in Sweden, 160 km long but just a few kilometers wide. It is the only region in Sweden that I have never visited. My daughter Agnes have never been here either, so she was eager to join me on the boat for the weekend.

Kalmar strait, the water between Öland and the mainland, is very narrow outside the city of Kalmar, so from my castle anchorage I was in Färjestaden in less than an hour. Agnes joined me by bus via the bridge later in the afternoon. We chose to meet here mostly of convenience, but the town was a bit of a disappointment. Not picturesque at all, we didn't see any buildings of interest. But the marina was very price worthy and welcoming. It also had sanitary facilities with a real home feeling, definitely the best I have seen in any marina.

We spent most of the weekend biking, trying to see as much of the island as possible. Saturday we made 70 kilometers, a strong effort by Agnes who was using my folding bike.
