At anchor south of Stora Askö - Jun 17, 2021

Fresh southerly winds took me from Öland back to the archipelagos outside the mainland. I just picked an anchorage that looked promising from the map and I was not disappointed. Tucked in between some big and small islands, there was a natural harbour that gave me good shelter from the southerly, that during the afternoon had grown quite strong. There was some places where it could be possible to go with the bow against the rocks and an kedge anchor from the stern, but I know from experience that it is very difficult or impossible to do that singlehanded if there is just a little wind. Before I reach the bow from the cockpit, the wind has taken the bow so it is impossible to jump ashore. There was one place where it seemed possible to go alongside against the rock, but I didn't dare to try alone.

The rocks on many Swedish island, and mainland as well, are often velvet smooth, grinded by the ice sheet during the last glacial period. They slope quite steep into the water, making it possible for even bigger keel boats to go bow to the rock, if you have a curved bow will say.
