One more day with little wind, and it seems this will last to Saturday. On the other hand my destination Sandhamn was less than 15 miles away, so after four hours of motor-sailing and even a little sailing I was in port. There is three alternatives for mooring here - Sandhamn village, which is a fancy place and hence expensive, and two smaller marinas. I opted for Telegrafholmen (Telegraph Island) and from there one can take a little ferryboat for free to the village.

All three marinas are run by the Royal Swedish Sailing Society. They came her 1897 and ever since it has been a classic destination for both Swedish and foreign sailors. Sandhamn was an important port before though. A customs station was established here and later followed a pilot station. During the 1800 hundreds of wealthy people from Stockholm moved out to the archipelago during the summers, and Sandhamn became one of the hotspots.

It is a very charming place, with much of its old atmosphere preserved. There are no streets in the village, just narrow sandy pathways between the houses. Of course there is a lot of commercial activity when the population increases multiple times in the summer. Pictures will come as soon as my internet connection is better. We are now in the outer parts of the Stockholm archipelago, open sea is just a few miles away.
