I had to wait until two in the afternoon to catch the strong tide out from Den Helder. Strong winds from northeast was forecasted. I had some hope to go closehauled at least some of the way but coming out from the narrow straits between Texel and a big delta to the west the wind was right against me. Very bad wind against tide conditions was the result and I started to regret I didn't wait a day more. But after Texel I turned east 20 degrees or so and got a somewhat smoother ride with the better angle toward the waves. Still very uncomfortable though. The marina entrance on Vlieland is the most narrow I have seen, with a very strong current across. I was going diagonally between the walls but well inside it was calm. But very narrow, I had to go three times back and forth to get the ropes and fenders out.
