I had estimated around 40 hours to reach Beaulieu when I left river Arno on Sunday morning. Instead it took me 24 hours more to reach Imperia, about 30 miles east of Beaulieu. But it was still with great relief I went in to the marina. The town looked pretty enough, and it wasn't an expensive mooring either, 30 euro per night. Italy is otherwise known for high marina prices. Maybe they make enough money on the many superyachts that is moored here, it was at lest 40 of them, maybe more. A 300 meters walk to the showers and no wifi is maybe a contributing cause.

I planned to stay only one night, but when I woke up Wenesday morning, I could not move my head in any direction without excruciating pain. Time for a doctor and strong painkillers, I figured. I got an appointment in the afternoon. The pain came from high up in the cervical spine, maybe a dislocation of a disc, was the diagnosis. He gave me some pills, and refused to take any payment, not even for the medicaments. More doctors like that!

Strong winds from the west on Thursday forced me stay also that day, which gave me some time for sightseeing. Imperia was one of I think five small villages that Mussolini made to one bigger city and gave it the name Imperia. Maybe because it is the most picturesque of them, Oneglia to the east is more industrialised, and has a commercial port.

People here vote for Berlusconis party, and the mayor was a former minister in his cabinet. He was in 2017 released from prison after helping another politician escape after being jailed for connections with the napolitan mafia. There were som other corruption stories he was involved in as well, but that was obviously seen as merits for being elected as mayor when he returned. Italian politic is impossible to understand for an outsider.
