For the third evening it is strong northerly in the bay outside Cascais, stronger than forecasted. Last night it was 30 knots most of the time for some hours, the highest I saw on the instruments was 41.

A 46 feet yacht lost its holding and drifted across the bay in high speed, heading for the breakwater, where it would have been smashed to pieces. No one was onboard obviously. A brave Belgian sailor, anchored next to me, a young guy, jumped in his inflatable little kayak and entered the boat and stopped it in some way.

Luckily the wind died out around midnight, but in the afternoon it piped up again and for some hours it has been gusting up to 30 knots. All the boats in the bay had to move further out today, the marine police came in their boat and told everybody to go further north east. The reason is fireworks later tonight they said. It's some kind of religious fiesta, I guess for the fishermen's saint. Their boats were decorated and there was a procession going on for hours. These local fiestas are taken very serious indeed, both here and in Spain. Making a lot of noise is obviously part of it.

Cascais is a very beautiful city, geared hard towards tourism. Here it is impossible to see that Portugal is a country in dire straits, the town gives a very wealthy impression.

I probably stay at anchor here some days more, and in the Lisbon area almost two weeks. My son Axel will join me 6th of September in Lisbon, and after that we will continue south.
